1967 words today. My productivity was a little lower for a good reason—I did a podcast interview tonight, which took an hour of my evening. So I expected my count to be a little lower as I wasn’t able to dictate this morning.
1967 isn’t bad even though it’s half of where I needed to be at the end of the day today. Still, I’m keeping the momentum, and momentum is the only thing that matters.
I still have a LOT of looping to do, so that’s going to expand the word count by around 500-1000 words or so, so I’m a lot further along than it looks.
I’ve hit a pretty action-packed section of the book that’s probably going to carry me until the end, which is good. That means rough sections are not likely to crop up again. But I could be wrong.
I actually think I may be closer to the end than I think. I can’t “see” the end yet, but everything I AM seeing is pointing me toward the end, which may put this novel somewhere around 45K, maybe a little more. Even if it’s 50K, I’m almost at a point where I can say that I have less than 10K to go.
Overall, a pretty good dictation session today. I paced my studio and spoke the story, which felt great.
I still need to finish by Friday……….failure is not an option……..
ACTUALLY, FAILURE IS ALWAYS AN OPTION
I set goals for myself, and most times I achieve them. Sometimes I don’t.
No one’s going to come to my house and shoot me for failing.
The alpha readers I’m sending the book to aren’t actually “alpha readers” in the sense that they’re going to read the whole thing. They’re actually consultants. I’m doing something different this time around.
I AM recruiting alpha readers, but I’m also recruiting subject matter experts to help me with certain parts of the novel that I want to get accurate. In this case, I want to get the city right. So I have some folks who live in this particular city who are going to read passages from the book and give me feedback. Once they’re done, I’ll send it to my actual alphas.
The “consultants” are only going to read snippets of the book. So I don’t need to be “done” per se when I send it to them, but it would be nice if I was. So I’m really just a setting a “nice to have” goal.
I should’ve specified that a few days ago. But the pressure is still on.
Also, I got the next iteration of the cover design back today. It’s looking good, but we’ll see. This is a tricky cover and I’ve got a 50/50 shot at either nailing it or falling on my face.
Actually, this concept has a 50/50 chance of bombing, honestly.
That’s exactly where I like to be. 🙂
PODCAST INTERVIEW
I did a podcast interview with Noelia Velasco, who is hosting a FREE festival called Creative Prosperity. It’s geared at writers who want to unlock their creativity. Sign up here: https://bit.ly/393XwKn. It’s sure to be a great event. Noelia has a great energy.
