It’s shocking to me how few writers respond to fan mail.
It’s one thing if you’re Stephen King or Hugh Howey. It’s another if you’re an indie author with a small audience…and you can’t find the time to reply graciously to someone who spent their hard-earned money on your hard work.
Be gracious with your fans. Thank them for getting in touch. Read their email. Look for trends. Make mental notes. And respond, just like you’d respond to any other email, but with gratitude.
Readers like that kind of thing.
