No words. Just continuing in my research for my new urban fantasy series, which is going well. I’m seeing more and more of the first chapter each day, which is good. But I may extend my research period into January as there is a lot I still need to dig into. It’ll be worth it.

LESSON LEARNED & EXECUTED

Did a lot of ad work today, and I’m seeing some really encouraging stuff (finally).

(Remember that a 1:10 conversion ratio or less is what you want to hit. This means that 1 in every ten clicks is resulting in a sale. This will be important as you read the below).

– Two of my fiction series have barely inched into profitable territory. This is not saying much—we’re talking a couple of dollars and a handful of sales here, but that wasn’t the case last month. Fiction is a super slow burn so I’m encouraged to see some results trending in the right direction for once.

– I changed the book descriptions for both of my poetry collections. I improved one of them from a 1:35 conversion rate (worst in my ad portfolio) to 1:22, which is markedly better but I still lost money, but half of what I lost last month, so good. The other one? I took it from 1:23 (not profitable) to 1:86. I lost DOUBLE my money compared to last month. Exactly the opposite outcome. #facepalm I realized the problem: I added poem excerpts, which is what a lot of indies are doing right now, and smart. The one for Android Poems worked well, and the one for Muse Poems didn’t. I think it was because the Muse Poem one was too long. I changed the Muse Poems one immediately to shorten it up. Now I have to wait for 100 more clicks to see if it worked…I at least know that I can always revert to the original if I need to. It’s got a 1:23 conversion which isn’t great, but it’s better than 1:86. Good Lord…

– Overall, my ads are way up month over month, which is great. All this stuff I did is working.

I’ve been keeping observation logs and testing my assumptions. That is working very well. I’m keeping detailed records about what I change and when, so that I can refer to my changes every 2 weeks and know immediately what I did and whether it worked. It’s a couple of extra steps, but very, very helpful.

Today was another smash ad day. Knocked it out of the park and made 8x what I spent today. That’s what I’m talkin’ about, baby!!

Anyhoo, I’m on a good run right now. I created around 20 ads this evening so my spend will inevitably tick upward, but hopefully not enough to upset the apple cart. If it does, it’s okay. Clicks = data and there’s very little that I can’t fix at this point if things go south.

Hope everyone has a good night.
